Board of Directors

FinAbility seeks to appoint members to the Board of Directors to support the Chief Executive Officer and staff in realizing its ambitious strategy. Directors have ultimate responsibility for the governance of FinAbility, ensuring it delivers its charitable objectives, is financially sound and is legally compliant. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about FinAbility’s mission and will help us achieve impact.

Responsibilities: 

  • Exercise fiduciary oversight to assure that the resources of the corporation are used in furtherance of its tax-exempt purpose, including establishing an annual operating budget, regular monitoring of the corporation’s financial performance, ensuring financial audits, necessary policies and assuring legal and regulatory compliance;
  • Connect FinAbility to foundations, influential persons, media, professionals/partners or financial institutions to support our growth and maturation.
  • Raise financial and other resources necessary to operate the corporation;
  • Actively partner with executive leadership in long-range and strategic planning for the organization;
  • Exercise programmatic oversight;
  • Provide policy direction and guidance to the organization;
  • Provide for the executive management of FinAbility by hiring, setting the compensation, supervising, and regularly evaluating the Chief Executive Officer;
  • Manage its own affairs, including the education, training, evaluation and development of board members and the assessment of its own performance;

Qualifications: 

  • Passionate about FinAbility’s goal of providing digital tools to domestic abuse survivors to become financially independent and permanently leave abuse;
  • Good communicators with strong character and integrity, value accountability, possess sound strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, and the ability to effect change.
  • Experience in retail and investment banking, credit cards, payment processing and/or digital aggregators.

FinAbility is seeking board members with strong ties to Oregon.

Commitment:

Product Lead

Purpose of the role: To continuously improve FinAbilty’s products and services to better serve survivors

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the CEO to create and maintain a product roadmap based on user feedback and unmet needs. 
  • Manage volunteer team of 1 to 4, overseeing the implementation of product roadmap and product maintenance (see sample tasks below)
  • Collaborate with Operations Lead to ensure function is properly staffed, proactively communicating skill and capacity needs 
  • Work closely with tech, finance, and industry advisors to inform product development
  • Attend weekly touchpoint with fundraising lead, community outreach lead, and CEO

Sample Tasks for Product Team: Front / backend development of new features; create and implement product assessments; curate educational materials for website; website audits (for accuracy / broken links); collect user feedback and impact data

Commitment: 10+ hours a week for 1 year

Desired skills: product management, personal finance, website development, data management, UX/UI, user research

Location: Preference for people located in Oregon, though this role can be done virtually

Tech Advisor

Purpose: To offer ad hoc guidance and act as a sounding board for Product Lead (and team) and CEO

Responsibilities: 

  • Vet and interviewing potential technical hires
  • Leverage experience to suggest the best tools and services
  • Advise on product roadmap, ensuring the right stuff is being built in the right order
  • Helping FinAbility pick and implement a development methodology and process
  • Connect the FinAbility Team to technical talent and experts
  • Attend biweekly meeting with CEO 

Commitment: 5 hours/month

Desired skills: product management, bootstrapping, frontend/backend development, technical hiring

Location: Preference for people located in Oregon, though this role can be done virtually
